My opinion on the matter is yes, it is important. Because your family is trying to protect you.They might not like your husband/wife for your safety. Maybe because they know something about your partner that you might not. A good example is they may have a criminal background. Your partner maybe doing things that can get you in trouble. And maybe your partner might try to hurt you.
Another reason is that maybe your family knows you won’t enjoy being with your partner. Maybe your partner has some views that you don’t agree with. Or they might believe in a religion that you don’t agree with. And there might be some qualities that your partner might have that you don’t like.
So yes I think that that your family should approve your partner. Most of the time they know what is best for you, and they only want to help you.
